Battle of the Artists
Battle of the Artists" is an annual street painting contest in Manassas, VA. I was inspired to start it in 2013 after I saw a similar event in another town. Artists of all ages and abilities are invited to join in; participation is free and all materials are provided. Artists have one day to bring their creations to life on the pavement of Battle Street; hence, the name.
2019 Prospectus
This web page will be THE source of information for artists about the "Battle", from what to bring to where to park. The entry form, however, is on the One Love website (link below). One Love is the "umbrella event" during which the Battle takes place.
DROP INS WILL BE ACCEPTED THIS YEAR! We have some extra supplies, so if you didn't get a chance to register, come by anyway; new registrations will be accepted as long as supplies last. Judging at 4, so don't start too late.

What should you paint?
Since colors have already been ordered, entrants should plan on painting something with several colors in it, rather than one or two colors. Black and white will be in short supply. We have sets of 12-24 colors, with the usual range of primaries, secondaries and earth tones.
Choose an image and a size you can easily complete in four to five hours. Traditional street painters sometimes recreate works from classic artists like Botticelli or Titian. Others prefer something more modern, or create an original artwork. Borrowing from a photograph is also popular. You may paint any subject as long as it is appropriate for family viewing and does not contain commercial messaging (logos, slogans etc.)
If you’d like to get ideas by looking at paintings from other festivals, check out our previous year's entries, below, or try visiting these websites:

2018 Winners!
Due to persistent rain, 2018's Battle was conducted on the wall of The Bone restaurant! This lent a whole new dimension to the project as their wall is red stucco. And, of course, vertical.
Left to right: Judge's Choice and People's Choice. See details and more images here.
